April 2012
Around Zach's birthday, but not specifically for his birthday, the family went to Daydream Island.
It's really called that and it's a lot like Fantasy Island.
Very secluded and private. You even have to get their by helicopter or ferry. No plane.
We drove. 17 or 1700 hours. Whatever...it took FOREVER!
We stopped in a little dive of a town one night and was greeted
by tree frogs on our doorstep.

Leaving Airlie for the Island
Da island...da island
Island life
cheeky cockatoos would land on our railing each night
The "sand" was actually broken pieces or coral
Sailing the Whitsundays

Pirates!
Giligan's Island?
The beautiful sailboat "Camira".
We snorkeled a little on the way out to Whitehaven Beach.
We snorkeled a little on the way out to Whitehaven Beach.
The craft had to stay away from shore because of shallow water.
We were taxied in on a purple motor boat.
While we were enjoying ourselves, someone else was looking
through our bags on the boat.
through our bags on the boat.
Brandon's wallet was stollen. HUGE bummer!
Whitehaven Beach
Whitehaven Beach is one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
It's sand isn't sand...it's silicon. What's silicon you ask???
noun Chemistry .
a nonmetallic element, having amorphous and crystalline forms, occurring in a combined state in minerals and rocks and constituting more than one fourth of the earth's crust: used in steelmaking, alloys, etc. Symbol: Si; atomic weight: 28.086; atomic number: 14; specific gravity: 2.4 at 20°C.
The most important thing to know about silicon is that IT NEVER GETS HOT! EVER!
It doesn't matter how hot the sun is blazing that day...nadda.
On the way back to the island, everyone was tired
More Island Life
You're just going to have to believe me that this is a manatee
Keep walking Brandon. Nothing to see here.
We also did a day cruse to the Great Barrier Reef.
We snorkled all...day...long. It was AWESOME!
I have no pictures. Yep, that's right.
I took no pictures of my family at the GBR.
However, we had a wonderful time and saw MANY awesome things.
This is what we would have looked like...
This is Wanda. She is the local Maori Wrasse
(divers refer to her as "Wanda", we were encouraged to pet her)
You cruise to this anchored boat at Knuckle Reef. It has a slide into the ocean!
Did you know that the McDougald's are among the few in
Australia who have actually visited the GBR?
We are one of the lucky ones.
